Wey House School is an exciting place to be right now. We are working closely with the Local Authority with the aim of expanding our provision, not only in terms of pupil numbers but also in terms of provision type. Due to increasingly complex needs, our ethos is to approach every child as an individual, building bespoke packages around each child. We don’t believe that children fit into boxes. We are starting our journey in April 2018 with the introduction of a Transition and Assessment Group. This group will support children through the difficult transition process into a new school. The team will also be supporting children throughout the year, as we have a strong commitment to re-integration into more suitable provisions. Working with our colleagues in other schools, we also hope to meet the needs of a smaller cohort of pupils who have both SEMH Difficulties and ASD (or traits of…). The behaviour of these pupils is often misunderstood and rarely catered for as they do not ‘fit neatly into one type of school or the other’. In addition to these exciting projects, we are aiming to create a group for younger pupils in Key Stage One. We believe that early intervention is the key to changing lives for the better. We hope to develop a group of dedicated staff who are experienced in working with pupils who communicate through their behaviour, whilst building their communication and Emotional Literacy skills. These staff will also have direct knowledge and experience of delivering the EYFS and KS1 Curriculum, within the context of a play-based setting. Outreach work, delivered by our highly skilled staff team will prevent some young children from even setting foot through our door!
